Just what is a "Red Neck"? Normally, Red Neck is a term given to degrade an individual. Take the term Yankee. In 1758 General James Wolfe penned the word Yankee as a term of contempt towards the colonial soldier. The song Yankee Doodle Dandy was sung by the British troops to mock the colonials. Funny how thing happens, the Colonials took the term and adopted it as a term brotherhood. So, sometimes terms meant to degrade can be held onto and turned as a term of pride that sets them aside from the herd. Ever notice when you call someone a Red Neck how he stands up straight and says "Thanks, and yes I am". Red necks are known for making something useful out of nothing at all, like just plain trash, junk, or garbage, something everyone else would haul to the dump. This last Saturday I'm organizing traffic down on the boat ramp and as I look over my shoulder here comes a true Red Neck, his partner, and their boat. With great pride they take this boat out of a flat bed trailer, which all red necks have, and launch it onto the lake. While watching them in awe launch this craft I ask "guys, do you mind if I take a few pictures" and like any prideful red neck his answer was "Na, take as many as you want, it's kinda cool huh". So, you take a few blue waste barrels add a few pallets several tie down straps an old worn out motor and wa la, you got yourself a fishing boat, red neck style. Just when you think the Red Neck spirit is fading away, look around, it ain't.
