This blog is to note the travels and experiences of the Captain and his Gypsy. Where will they go and what will they see. I just don't know. Stay tuned.

Savannah Ga.
What a great place. History, history, history. There is so much history here, and trying to soak in as much as you can in two days is just impossible, so, you get as much as you can and just admire the beauty of a unbelievable city, especially the old historic downtown. There is everything from fine dining to historic sites such as the many park like squares. As you stand in Johnson square you are reminded that the declaration of independence was read out loud to the city inhabitants for the first time right here in 1776. As you walk along the waterfront, you stand where many a slave was bought and sold. As you go through the Victorian section of town you see places such as the birthplace of the Girl Scouts. You also see the mansion that General Sherman inhabited on his march to the sea. General Sherman was well known for his taking and totally destroying of cities as he led the Union army through the South on his March to the Sea. Savannah was spared the torch because it was such a beautiful city. In fact, General Sherman wrote a letter to then Pres. Lincoln giving him the city of Savannah as a Christmas gift along with other weapons, ammunition and other things. Lincoln accepted the gift and Savannah was saved. Another great point of interest was the Dueling yard, yeh, dueling as in get your gun, walk 10 paces turn and shoot the guy, if you win, great, if you loose, the cemetery is just yards away, how convenient. If you ever get a chance to visit this city, DO IT, you will not be disappointed.
