St. Augustine, Oldest city in the U. S. I have one day left here and then it's hit the road again. Got a small problem though. I can't find a single RV site in or near Savannah Ga. What is going on here? I got one last effort of a 2* park called Biltmore. 2 Stars is way below my comfort rating. But, if they got room it's better than Walmart. The problem is I can't get in touch with them until Monday and that's the day I'm leaving here. If they don't have room, Savannah will be scrubbed from the mission plan.
Lets talk Saint Augustine, established in the 1500's and is the authentic location for the first Thanksgiving. It also has a huge history in Pirates. To see all of this you must spend money, Very very little is free, I'm beginning to think Tourist Trap, but, it is interesting and yes, I will pay. After all I am a tourist.
So, we tour a Distillery, a winery, a jail, a lighthouse (tomorrow), and the best of all the worlds largest Pirates Museum. Best experience without a doubt was the Pirates Museum tour. I have been misguided and disolusioned about pirates all my life. For instance Arrrrrrrrrrr, a famous pirate phrase. Arrrrrr came from an actor who had forgotten his line, so a pause an, Arrrrrrr. Walking the plank, never happend, except in Hollywood. Traditional Pirates flag, skull and cross swords, credit goes to Disney. The museum does have an authenic Pirates flag, one of only 3 known. Women Pirates? nope, never happened. Peg legs and hooked hands, nope, couldn't fight so there was no room for the lame. I tell ya, I been told lies all my life about pirates, now I got to rebuild my ideas about them. Our guide could have been a real pirate as far as I know.
