Yeh, I know, its been more than just awhile, but, I'm still here and here we go.
Once in awhile an experience comes along that makes me turn inward and see life as it should be instead of what others want me to see. Some times, we live out lives confined by asphalt, concrete, manicured lawns and fancy foreign cars (well they use to be called foreign cars). We worry about our 401k's, the bull and the bear, and the latest "I" phone. We live our lives so fast we forget about what's important in out lives. Yesterday, in the relatively small town of Heber City Utah the Gypsy and I along with Jeremy, Grace and the kids went to a demolition derby. Now, a demolition derby isn't all that rare but its the people at the derby that sets it apart. Some from the big city would call it a gathering of Red Necks or maybe even country folks. However, they stand and remove there hats when the colors come on the field, they know and sing the National Anthem, they bow their head as a prayer is offered in thanks, and in a request for safety for all contestants. The announcers are good ole home folks cracking lame jokes which once in awhile gets a laugh, and I'm IMPRESSED. One of my friends and his daughter have built a derby car. Father and daughter, planing, cutting and welding. No tv, and no movies. They get home from work and head to the barn. Cutting torch, and welding rods, night after night and eventually, a roaring, screaming derby cars rolls out and blast down the road for a test run. Paint it (#16), and put lettering on to thank the sponsors, now, put in on a trailer and take it to the derby. A father and daughter project, and guess who the driver is, and it ain't dad. Race day is here and a whole lot of excitement is in the air. uh-oh Sammy's heat is all girls and only 3 racers. Now the bad news, it's sammy against 2 sisters. Sammy is going to be ganged up on. Well, that didn't last long, the two sisters did ganged up on her and, well just wait till next time. The derby is BIG here in Heber and if your lucky enough to get a ticket you become part of the in crowd. Dress code for the derby is jeans, "T" shirts, boots, ball caps and of course camouflage. Next year I'll be better dressed for the event as to look like I belong.
