Back on Nov. 13, 2015 I wrote a blog entry entitled "rounding turn 4", it was about the similarities of life and horse racing.
Turn 4, I looked up the other day and noticed a sign which said, "exiting turn 4". This year I turned the big 70. Never been much on numbers, but, for some reason 70 seemed different. Yea, I know 70 is the new 50, or so I've heard, but, 70 means you're exiting turn 4 and headed into the stretch run. As you exit turn 4, straight ahead is the finish line, you may be able to see it or you may not. One thing is for sure, there are hazards all along the way. Things that will be trying to knock you out of the race. So, at 70, all of a sudden I have become much more attuned to mortality. Once again, all of a sudden I see things different, I make decisions differently, I now seem to be playing with the end game in sight. What is important, and what is not. The stretch run is full of health issues requiring you to make adjustments to your ride. Me, I need to make some adjustments to my ride. I need to find a better balance to make the most out of the stretch run. But most of all the stretch run needs to be ridden with attitude, a great attitude. So, if you are still in turn 4 of if you have exited turn 4 and looking at the stretch run, hold on, make adjustments when needed, keep your head held high and remember every turn in the race. Remember you only get to go around once.
